Ok, heres some facts and figures that should scare the shit out of anyone who wants to, or feels the need to, take drugs.

I started smoking weed 20 years ago. It was more expensive then so over the course we'll average it out at £2 per spliff. Eccies were £20 to start with but are down to £3 or so now. So they average out at say £10 each. Coke has remained static at £50 a gram. Heroin was £10 a bag at an average of 2 a day for 2 years. Alcohol was a 'whenever thing' but must have averaged out at say £20 a week since i was 14 or so. And im going to include nicotine... thats an addiction that costs money so has to be included. Thats at £4 a pack at todays rates.

Hash
******
10-15 spliffs a day at £2.

2 x 15 spliffs a day x 365 days x 20 years = £219, 000 or at todays rates (1.8905) $414, 019.50

Ecstacy
********
Taken on and off at weekend from years 20 to 30 so 10 years at an average of 4 a time.

4 x 52 weeks x 10 years = £20, 800 or $39, 322.40

Heroin
*******
20 x 365 days x 2 years = £14, 600 or $27, 601.30

Alcohol
********
20 x 52 weeks x 20 years = £20, 800 or $39, 322.40

Tobbacco
***********
4 * 365 days * 20 years = £29, 200 or $55, 202.60

Thats a total of £85, 400 or $161, 448.70 before the hash is added. That gives a total of £304, 400 or $575, 468.20 with it.

Fancy a joint anyone?

Given I used to roll the spliffs when sitting in company (whether it was my weed or not) I must have rolled in the region of about a million spliffs. Given just what ive bought alone were talking over 100, 000. As you can see weed was always top of my list but even so ive wasted a small fortune over the last 20 years. Where the hell did I get all that cos i sure as hell didnt earn it. Ok, I used to be a bit of a lad who thought nothing of spot of crime (that stopped when i was about 18 or 19) but even so.

And I havent counted the coke or speed (amphetamine) or other substance abuse ive went through so we could probably easily add another £20, 000 or £30, 000 to that.

Shit seeing those figures scares even me.

Shit! That is a lot of money.

Thats a big ass house! And even cheaper than a mortgage which is usually over 25 years.

I guess its why I hated my dad so much.

If i can work/operate the way I do having done all that what would/could have been like without it?

His favourite punishment for me was removing the computer... dundernut. He never encoureged me just punishment is my only real memory of a child.

I'll never forget the year he bought himself a cabin cruiser boat thingy... except of course at the expense of our Christmas... best present I/we got that year was a knitted jumper from Gran and an oor wullie book.

But like I said in an earlier blog... rest in peace old man... the only way is up for Tam.

Simon made this comment,
Thats an amazing amount of cash - I suppose you don't notice it day by day.

Well worth working out though, and putting 'on the record' too.

Thomas Inglis made this comment,
Well its not really money I would have had anyway Simon, especially the biggie of the weed.

I mean I used to 'generate' the money for that anyway and somehow, until I started college/uni/work by being a social bandit and/or the odd dodgy trick.

By that time I had learned to buy it in large amounts (bulk buying is always cheaper) which saved a few bucks so its probably not actually as large as it seems.

So its not money I would have saved as I wouldnt have made it in the first place had I not had to keep the supply going.

But its still an amazing amount of money.

Given my brother aint far behind me (though his 'vice' was booze) we must have spent half a million pounds between us.

Im so proud of him... he on day 14 today. Me? Yes when I set my mind to it... Its taken more from Andy to come/go through this so more credit to him.

Thomas Inglis made this comment,
It doesnt matter much in the grand scheme but i miscounted the ecstacy one by a factor of 4... theyre a tenner each not 4 so x 4 the sum for that.
